This center of traditional ceramics is of Roman origin, although the first written records date back to the 13th century. Remains from the Muslim era have been preserved, and there are areas here of extraordinary natural beauty, such as the Straits of the Escabas River.
MONUMENTS AND MUSEUMS:
- Ayuntamiento (Town Hall): located on the Plaza Mayor (Main Square) with a Renaissance facade (16th century).
- Church of San Nicolás de Bari: also situated in the Plaza Mayor, with a late Gothic basilican layout and with an original square tower from the 16th century, in Florentine stonework.
- Noble houses with coats-of-arms (17th century) and magnificent iron window grills: the Inquisición House, the Pareja House, the Courthouse.
- Ancient prison (16th century).
- Convent of San Miguel de las Victorias: outside the city walls, built by Don Fernando Carrillo in honor of the battle of Lepanto.
- Remains of the Rosal Convent: Gothic style.
