VILLAGES OF CUENCA. USEFUL INFORMATION
Minglanilla

Distance to Cuenca 84 Km
Zone Mancha

In the area of the Manchuela Alta, southeast of the Autonomous Community of Castilla-La Mancha, lies the town of Minglanilla, framed within the limits of the provinces of Cuenca and Valencia, whose boundaries are formed by the reservoir of Contreras, Cabriel River and the Nature Reserve of the Hoces del Cabriel.
The current village Minglanilla dates back to 1505, first as a village belonging to the town of Iniesta and later, in 1564, as an independent vila belonging to the kingdom of Castile and framed by the Marquis of Villena and the Bishop of Cuenca. Its founder was Juan López of Minglanilla.
The prehistory has left us an important legacy, such as the shelter of paintings located in the Vicente Gorge (in a highly rugged and inaccessible area within the Natural Reserve of the Gorges of Cabriel), discovered on May 1st, 1987. There is a replica of the paintings in the Archeologycal Museum of Iniesta.
